Under
the patronage of HRH princess Alia Al Feisal Zara Gallery celebrated
the New Year by opening its doors to an outstanding theme exhibition
featuring the works of Jordanian artist Abdul Hay Musallam. Through
his works the artist strengthens the resistance of a people who
are struggling on all levels to survive. He shows the life of Palestinians,
the village weddings, and other gatherings vividly painted on detailed
reliefs (Sally Bland). The artist reflects his ideas to the public
through the use of simple tools and materials. His works reflect
a particular sensitivity towards women. They are a clear reflection
of his strong belief that women are the catalyst of life and culture.
In his works the female figure appears as the essence of life for
the man. Through the element of time Musallam has established a
well defined respect for his name and his works, for his art has
been displayed in 20 individual exhibits in the Arab World and other
nations. Musallam's works have also been displayed in numerous group
displays. In 1986 the artist's works have been reflected in a documentary
film made by Mr. Mohammed Mawas. The film was given the title "Gold
Dust" .In it a contrast is made between poverty, raw materials
and the value of their transformation in the artist's works. This
particular exhibit is in line with the mission of Zara Gallery and
its commitment to the contemporary art movement in Jordan. The Zara
Gallery strives to play host to many young as well as accomplished
artistic talents in the hope of creating rich cultural and artistic
exchange on the local as well as the regional level. This exhibit
will run until February 19th 2003. It can be visited between the
time periods of 11:00 am and 7:00pm daily. On Sundays the exhibit
